NC Mountains-to-Sea Trailblazing Underway

Sunday’s Raleigh News & Observer began a four-part series on the development of North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail, which stretches from the Smoky Mountains to coastal dunes. UNC Press has published the only comprehensive hiking guide to this 900+ mile trail, written by Allen de Hart, who has been hiking, designing, constructing, maintaining, and writing about southeastern trails for more than sixty-five years.

Hiking North Carolina’s Mountains-to-Sea Trail offers:

  • detailed descriptions of hiking routes, with precise measurements and difficulty ratings;
  • discussions of terrain, plant and animal life, and local history and lore;
  • a special 100-page section of trail maps;
  • information on parking, provisions, camping, and lodging; rules and regulations; and tips on health and safety.

Tuck this book in your pack and put on your hiking boots. Hit the trails this summer with Allen de Hart as your guide.
