John Hope Franklin memorial service
Family, friends, and colleagues shared memories and inspiration in a loving service in honor of John Hope Franklin and his wife Aurelia Whittington Franklin yesterday at Duke Chapel. We say goodbye to a wise and generous man, a history-making historian, and an old friend.

Having met and talked with Dr. Franklin on several occasions, I consider myself fortunate to have been alive at the same time this scholar and titan was. The celebration of their lives was touching and enlightening. Whenever I see an orchid, I too shall think of John Hope.

Thanks for your comment, Dr. Brooks. I agree totally. What a giant he was and how lucky we are to have known him.
