I am currently trying to do research on the History of Lawtonv ille Community in South Carolina, which at that time was part of the St Peters Parrish. Other than the complete distruction of the area, there is very little known about Shurmans forces in this area of South Carolina. If you have any knowledge of this event and area, I would appreciate your help. You may email me at the above: Thank You.

Thank you for all your kind words. I'm working away on the larger project-- a history of the way Americans have remembered Sherman's March, but it will be a few years!

Dear Professor Rubin:

Your lovely mother, Deborah, and I work together and Deborah sent the link to your fascinating book. I am a nut on the Civil War, just finished Winston Groom's Vicksburg 1863 and Dara Horne's All other Nights (Norton 2009), an wonderful novel of a Union spy (Jewish) who is sent to New Orleans to kill his uncle, a guy bent on killing Lincoln, and then sent to Virginia to infiltrate a sister spy ring, the Levy family. Read and enjoy it.

I look forward to meeting you and reading this new venture.
