We have Thanksgiving Day, followed by Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now meet Giving Tuesday, a new occasion to give back to the communities and organizations you care about.

How will you give today? UNC Press director of development Joanna Ruth Marsland offers the following invitation:

If the measure of a publishing house is the quality of its books, then the University of North Carolina Press holds an enviable record with awards including, just to name a few, the National Book Award, the Pulitzer Prize in History, numerous Bancroft Prizes and Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prizes. As we stride toward the Press’s centennial, I invite you to join the Press Club and be a part of our reaching for ever higher heights of excellence.

UNC Press publishes 100 pathbreaking authors a year whose work changes North Carolina and the world. For two consecutive years, UNC Press authors have been named MacArthur Foundation Fellows: Tiya Miles, author of The House on Diamond Hill: A Cherokee Plantation Story, and Dylan C. Penningroth, author of The Claims of Kinfolk: African American Property and Community in the Nineteenth Century South. Press Club members help the Press recruit and retain these leading scholars.

Electronic books comprise a steadily increasing source of UNC Press net sales. Part of these sales include DocSouth Books done in collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Library, which bring selected classic works from the digital library of Documenting the American South back into print. Press Club members help the Press make new and classic publications available in electronic formats, extending the Press’ reach to more interested readers.
