To get you reminiscing, I’ll share with you one of my favorite skits from Free to Be. I grew up listening to the album with my sister in our living room. And I loved to hear the story of Atalanta, who ran as fast as the wind, Marlo Thomas says in a breezy voice. The other voice you’ll recognize in this skit is Alan Alda. (The video below is labeled incorrectly as “Atalantis,” but the content is correct.)

Marlo Thomas and Alan Alda are both contributors to When We Were Free to Be: Looking Back at a Children’s Classic and the Difference It Made, edited by Lori Rotskoff and Laura L. Lovett. Visit the book page on the UNC Press website to see the full roster of contributors and to read a sample.

You’re in luck, too, for right now we are in the midst of our Holiday Sale, so you can save 30% off the cover price when you use 01HOLIDAY at the checkout on our website!
