Pauley Receives Austrian Cross of Honor

During his scholarly career, Bruce Pauley has built a name for himself as an authority on Austrian history. Pauley’s five books on the subject, including the award winning UNC Press publication From Prejudice to Persecution: A History of Austrian Anti-Semitism, have previously earned the professor a number of awards and distinctions, including the 1994 Austrian Cultural Institute Book Prize and 1993 Charles Smith Award.

Last month, Bruce Pauley added to his distinguished career when it was announced that he would receive the Austrian Cross of Honor for Scholarship and Art, First Class, awarded by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria.

In a press release, the Austrian Embassy said, “The Austrian Cross of Honor for Scholarship and Art, First Class has a long history dating back to the 19th Century, and was re-established in its current form in 1955. The award honors Austrians and foreign leading figures who have ‘distinguished themselves and earned general acclaim through especially superior creative and commendable services in the areas of the sciences or the arts.”

UNC Press would like to congratulate Professor Pauley on his important distinction and career full of outstanding work.
