Well, it’s the last day of our celebration of National Wildflower Week. We’ve given you a lot to read about so far, so now that it’s Friday, let’s look at some pictures of flowers! These beautiful images come from another backlist favorite, Wild Flowers of North Carolina, by WIlliam S. Justice, photographer and botanist, C. Ritchie Bell, botanist and founder of the NC Botanical Garden, and Anne H. Lindsey, co-owner of Laurel Hill Press. The handbook provides color photos and descriptions of over 500 wild plants found in North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, and even Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Okay, that’s enough reading. Time for pretty flowers!
Okay, okay, I told a fib–one last thing to read, but it’s worth it! David Blevins and Michael P. Schafale, authors of Wild North Carolina: Discovering the Wonders of Our State’s Natural Communities, will be doing a reading and nature walk in at Mayo Park in Roxboro this Saturday (May 7th) at 10:00 am. This is a great opportunity to maybe spot some of these wonderful wildflowers and native plants we’ve been celebrating all week!
