A Message from Editor Andreina Fernandez:

I hope those of you in Chile are enjoying what I am sure is an energizing and generative NAISA conference. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the UNC Press virtual exhibit. My name is Andreina Fernandez and I acquire for UNC Press in Native American and Indigenous studies. I oversee our Critical Indigeneities series in collaboration with our esteemed series editors J. Kēhaulani Kauanui and Jean M. O’Brien. Although I am not in Chile to chat about our exciting new books in-person, I hope you’ll take some time to peruse our virtual book exhibit and take advantage of our discount code!

Recently published books in the Critical Indigeneities series include Rana Barakat’s Ongoing Return: Mapping Memory and Storytelling in Palestine and Joseph Weiss’ Irreconcilable: Indigeneity and the Violence of Colonial Erasure in Contemporary Canada. We also publish a range of books in NAIS and related fields outside of the series. Recent publications include Tisa Wenger’s Spirits of Empire: How Settler Colonialism Made American Religion, Joshua Mentanko’s The Power to Harm and Heal: Intercultural Medicine in Modern Mexico, Colleen O’Neill’s Waging Sovereignty: Native Americans and the Transformation of Work in the Twentieth Century, and Julie L. Reed’s Land, Language, and Women: A Cherokee and American Educational History.

In these times, the work of NAIS scholars is as vital as ever. It’s an honor to support this work and help connect it with readers. If you’re interested in learning more about publishing with UNC Press, feel free to email me at andreina.fernandez@uncpress.org
