Veteran legiters William Craver and Peter Lawrence, nonprofit org Career Transition for Dancers and North Carolina’s long-running historical drama “The Lost Colony” are set to receive the 2013 Tony Honors.
The annual Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theater recognize legit industryites and organizations whose work isn’t eligible for the Broadway kudos’ annual round of competitive awards.
Longtime agent Craver scores the honor for a career that has stretched from his work as a producer and a general manager to his headline gig as a legit tenpercenter. He was partner and president of Writers and Artists Agency until it was acquired in 2004 by Paradigm, where Craver went on to lead the legit department. Three of his clients – David Auburn, Jonathan Larson and Robert Schenkkan – won Pulitzers while he was repping them. He recently retired from Paradigm, although he plans to stay on in an emeritus position.
Lawrence receives the honor for his 20 years as a Broadway production stage manager. He also has been exec producer for “Miss Saigon” and “Les Miserables” as well as associate director for tuners including “Spamalot” and “Shrek the Musical.” He’s currently the PSM of the Rialto revival of “Annie.”

Career Transition for Dancers, a national nonprofit, gets the Tony for its educational and entrepreneurial support to terps for whom performing is no longer a viable option, helping them build second-act careers. Founded in 1982, Career Transition has offices in Gotham, L.A. and Chicago, with a mobile National Outreach Program as well.
Honorees list is rounded out by “Lost Colony,” a 75-year-old production that plays every summer on Roanoke Island in Manteo, N.C. One of the last remaining Federal Theater Projects, the big-cast show is a symphonic drama inspired by the mysterious disappearance of English colonists from the area in the 16th century. Current production designer is Broadway costumer William Ivey Long, also the chair of the American Theater Wing, one of the orgs that co-presents the Tonys every year.
The Tony Honors will be handed out at a private cocktail reception on June 8, just ahead of the full kudocast skedded to be broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Musical Hall on June 9.
