Since we're expecting the first baby for either of us, I picked this book so I could get a bit more "birth prep" for our homebirth (My OB and Nephrologist both told me this is the safest option for us). This book is about a woman's birth using Lamaze in one country and then trying to find another doctor in the US to do a "natural" birth during a time when women often got "twilight anesthesia". There is no explanation of Lamaze at all. If you're looking for an "I can do it and this is why" book OR you want to get a broader view on births/birth process, then get it. It definitely shows that natural childbirth is nothing to fear, but there is no how-to for Lamaze techniques in this book.
I would highly recommend Penny Simkin's "Birth Partner" instead. "Birth Partner" is the best of the 6 books I've read (As a nanny, I witnessed the births of the majority of the kids I've nannied for, really wish I had read this then!).
