Brandon Proia Named New Acquisitions Editor at UNC Press
“After the past few years spent editing and acquiring serious nonfiction at PublicAffairs and Basic Books, I’m thrilled to be making the move to UNC Press. The publishing team has secured a formidable reputation, and the list of UNC Press’s authors and honors is truly impressive,” said Proia. “I couldn’t be more excited to contribute my efforts to sustaining and building upon what they’ve already accomplished.”
Proia had worked at PublicAffairs since 2010, with responsibility for editing and acquiring works of political science, narrative history, and sociology, among other categories of serious nonfiction. He is particularly interested in the history of global hotspots such as the Middle East and will be acquiring books in similar areas for UNC Press. He will also focus on recent and contemporary history, including responsibility for the Justice, Power, and Politics series; African American studies; and environmental history.
UNC Press Editorial Director Mark Simpson-Vos said, “Brandon’s experience developing serious works of nonfiction by scholars, journalists, and other writers will be a great asset to the Press’s editorial program. I know his authors have found him to be a strong partner in the publishing process, and I’m impressed by his knack for spotting promising writers and projects at a formative stage. We’re excited about the skills he’ll bring in helping to build our history lists in new directions.”
Proia has ties to the University as a 2005 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.A. in English and Creative Writing. His new responsibilities at UNC Press began this week.
