New Assistant Editorial Director Debbie Gershenowitz

UNC Press is delighted to announce that effective October 1, 2022, Debbie Gershenowitz has been promoted into the new role of assistant editorial director.

As assistant editorial director, while continuing to acquire a broad range of general interest and scholarly works in the field of history, Debbie will take on new responsibility for strategic leadership and management of the Press’s broader acquisitions program.

“Since Debbie joined our team in 2019, she has acquired and published a terrific list of books that have helped push our history list in new directions,” said Mark Simpson-Vos, Wyndham Robertson Editorial Director. “She has also become a vital partner to me as we have expanded our editorial team and our list, supporting our colleagues and helping chart our future directions. As assistant editorial director, her skill and experience will help ensure our long-term vision and current work are in good alignment, not just for the acquisitions team but throughout the Press.”

Prior to joining UNC Press in 2019, Gershenowitz worked at Scribner, Palgrave, New York University Press, and Cambridge University Press. She has also been active in service to the Association of University Presses, including recent work with the Acquisitions Editorial Committee to update the association’s Best Practices for Peer Review handbook.

Please join us in offering Debbie congratulations, and much success in her new role!
